While the Lebanese Army was ready to safeguard its territorial integrity with alacrity (as it well should!!!), when it suspected a violation of its borders by foreign troops, in this case Israel, the very fact that they reacted as they did shows its commanders hypocrisy. Even if they were totally convinced that Israel had decided to invade, the alacrity they showed in defending itself would have been more believable if applied equally to Hizbullah and its rearming efforts.
When Hizbullah, a few days earlier chose to foist its own flag on the very border with Israel under the very nose of UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army neither of the latter two reacted in any way, although Hizbullah’s action was in flagrant disregard of UN Resolution 1701. The Lebanese Army represents, or is supposed to represent and enforce, Lebanon’s sovereignty over its territory. When Hizbullah foisted its own flag within Lebanon’s territory it was, in fact, not only provoking Israel, it was thumbing its nose at the UN by ignoring its mandate and at Lebanese PM Saniora’s government by sending him a clear message that they are their own country within a country and are not under the democratically elected government’s control. Hizbullah made it obvious that they do not consider themselves under the Lebanese jurisdiction, only under the Iranian/Syrian axis of evil’s control.
I wholeheartedly applaud Lebanese Defense Ministers Elias Murr’s refusal Hizbullah to hand over the truck to Hizbullah, confiscated by the government, as it was carrying weapons to the terror organization in Southern Lebanon. Hizbullah brazenly had demanded be turned over to them, in spite of this being in clear contravention of the agreements that stopped the last Lebanese/Israeli war. Mr. Murr bravely refused to be cowed by these enemies of Lebanon, these foreign agents that can’t wait to sell their country to the the likes of Baby Assad, the rabid killer of Lebanese who oppose any foreign rule and that descendant of apes and pigs, the putrid little maggot, Mahmoud Ahmedinajad.
Before the Lebanese Army becomes so trigger happy with Israel it would behoove it to treat Hizbullah the same, for Nasrallah’s organization is the cancer that is gnawing away at the innards of Lebanese society. I am not Lebanese, nor do I have any relatives in that country, but I am convinced that only a totally sovereign Lebanon free of ANY outside forces or venomous foreign agents within, can once again be the Riviera of the Middle East where all can leave peacefully side by side without fear of reprisals because of creed or ethnicity.
I neither speak, nor understand any Arabic but this video on Blacksmiths of Lebanon has the answer. If its message is heeded and applied fully, Lebanon may yet be an important element of stability and prosperity for the whole Middle East. Though I had to rely on the English subtitles, I found its message powerful and emotional as it filled me with hope that someday soon, the killing, the hatred, may stop…

The photo above is from Michael J. Totten’s blog, it’s a message to Hizbullah by Eli Khoury (he is the CEO of the advertising firm Saatchi and Saatchi in the Levant) that the Lebanese are fed up with being used as human shields. If the message is fully absorbed throughout the Middle East that life is the most gift we have, perhaps it can once again became the cradle for mankind’s greatest achievements.
